Home business record keeping

There are lots of systems and opinions about how to maintain good records for your home business. You might want to keep your records on your computer, then print them out when it's necessary.

You also might want to keep a simple cash flow ledger, noting income and expenses. Even this leaves you with a decision about receipts for expenses, though.
  • Manilla envelopes, dated for each month and holding the documentation you need for tax purposes.
  • Sturdy plastic or cardboard boxes to house each month's receiptes.
  • Filing cabinet and file folders where you sort receipts according to the type of purchase or income.
  • Hanging file folders.
  • Small, table top dresser drawers, one per month.
  • Binder with tabbed index pages and pocket folders.
The decision about how to store important documentation is up to you. The primary concern is to be sure to actually use your preferred system to keep meticulous records.;
