Healthful budget minded eating

Just coming out of the holidays, I must admit that I didn't do very well in the area of healthful eating. Too many treats abounded, and sometimes it was simpler to grab a rich cookie than to prepare a nutritious meal. Shame on me. We all know that "a moment on the lips, forever on the hips" applies in these cases.

So far, my clothes are still fitting me just fine, and I don't want to buy a whole new wardrobe of maternity clothes because of my foolish food indulgences. So, I'll be more careful from here on out to eat smaller portions and include a variety of food groups into my daily menus.

In fact, making sure I have written out menus for the week is not only good insurance against poor eating habits, but it's an excellent way to maintain control of the food budget. Keeping an eye on what's already in the pantry and freezer, and building meals around what's already on hand (only shopping for what's needed to fill in the gaps) is a great way to be sure the food budget isn't being abused.
