No, it's not even Thanksgiving yet, or even Halloween, but this is when you really should be shopping for Christmas. While there aren't throngs of shoppers you can shop as you will, taking your time, searching out the best deals, and not being hassled by salespersons.
This is also the time when you won't be inundated with TV ads for everything from lighted sneakers to kitchen gadgets. You can think and decide with a clear head.
The truth is, some of my most treasured gifts for Christmas have been ornaments for christmas decorating. They aren't all tree ornaments, either. Some are parts of vignettes that I set up around the house. They have mostly been gifts from my dear Mother, who thinks in terms of things that aren't faddish but which will last with memories of Christmas past.
That's exactly how I like to give to others, as well. It's not always about the latest kitchen gadget or electronic device. Sometimes, it's about a handmade work of Christmas art that connects to a memory.
